Glorious

Glorious
22 March 2011

This was taken from the window seat, as the plane aligned between the sun and the cloud below. This optical phenomenon is called a "glory" and it is "produced by light backscattered (a combination of diffraction, reflection and refraction) towards its source by a cloud of uniformly-sized water droplets". If you want to know more, you can read about it on wikipedia. I've seen it a few times but it's the first time I've gotten a reasonably good photo of it.
