Wedding Cake Detail

Wedding Cake Detail
15 February 2009

This photo was taken at a wedding a few weeks ago. I used two techniques to achieve this result. The first was to place a piece of paper, out of which I had cut a heart shape, in front of the lens. This ensured that the points of light in the ceiling (which were blurred by shooting wide open) would produce nice heart shaped bokeh. The second technique was to use off camera flash to light the cake. I placed a CTO gel over the flash to balance the flash light with the ambient and colour corrected it in post.

Apart from correcting the colour, very little post processing was done on this image. It was quite satisfying to get a result I liked in camera for a change! You can roll your mouse over the 'original' link above the photo to see the unprocessed image.
